THE 84th Meeting of ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation – COSTI-84 and related subcommittees meeting were held at “Bellevue Resort” in Bohol, the Philippines from 16 to 20 October. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Dr Sai Kyaw Naing Oo and COSTI Technology Subcommittee team leaders attended the event.
At the opening ceremony of COSTI 84, the rotating chairman, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Information Communication of Brunei, Mr Mohammad Nazri Mohammad Yusof gave an opening speech and the Philippines’ Ministry of Science and Technology Undersecretary Dr Leah J Buendia gave a welcome speech.
Afterwards the opening ceremony of the ASEAN Textile Science and Technology Exposition continued, and the display of textile technology and traditional clothing by ASEAN countries was launched.
Discussions were presented according to the COSTI technical subcommittee, and negotiated issues related to the establishment of an ASEAN Technology Hub among ASEAN countries and the holding of workshops on Artificial Intelligence, the Network on Bio-Circular and Green Economy, and the strategic implementation of regional research infrastructure.
They also talked over the issue of selecting and approving research papers on science and technology and innovation related to ASEAN and partner organizations such as the United States, England, and the European Union, as well as discussing the issues of jointly holding workshops and conferences and allowing more women researchers to participate and be rewarded. — MNA/KZL
