Myanmar attends 12th International Forum ATOMEXPO 2022 in Russia

MYANMAR delegation led by Union Minister for Electric Power U Thaung Han and Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, currently in Russian Federation, attended the opening ceremony of the 12th International Forum ATOMEXPO 2022 in Sochi together with Myanmar Ambassador to Russia U Lwin Oo on 21 November.

The forum was attended by Nuclear experts, governmental officials, relevant personnel of NGOs and business people from 74 countries.

First, Chairman Alexey Likhachev of Rostom delivered an opening speech. Then, the participants studied the modern gallery and scale models of the nuclear industry displayed at the forum and took commemorative photos.

 During the Plenary Session held at Sirius Park of Science and Art, Myanmar delegates participated under the topic of “Nuclear Spring: creating a sustainable future”. Then, Chairman Alexey Likhachev of Rosatom read out the message sent by Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.

Next, the attendees dis[1]cussed the role nuclear energy plays in solving the tasks on the global nuclear agenda, the contribution of nuclear technology to economic development without affecting the environment and social sectors and the potential in education and job opportunities.

Myanmar delegation met with Chairman Alexey Likhachev of Rosatom separately to discuss small-scale hydropower, wind power, nuclear power plants and human resource subjects and signed the Non-Disclosure Agreement.

Established in 2009, the ATOMEXPO Forum was held annually and is a key forum for IAEA and Europe, Latin America, Asia and African countries.

It creates its goal for reductions in carbon dioxide emissions using nuclear energy to facilitate a green transition.

At the forum, the documents were signed by Belarus, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Myanmar, and Uzbekistan. The programme of the forum included some 40 events and over 4,000 people took part in the events.
